Tube Adjustment for Select Dosers

We’ve had a number of customers in the past who were a little confused by the Tube Adjustment ratings on their peristaltic pump tubes for the Select Doser. So, we’ve put together both this article and the accompanying video to explain what the tube adjustment is and how to change it on your Select Doser.

What is the Tube Adjustment for?

The peristaltic pump tubes used with the Select Doser are manufactured using a process called extrusion. This means that their shape is formed by forcing a hot or liquid form of the material through an orifice matching the desired shape. It’s a little bit like squeezing toothpaste out of a tube.

One small issue with the extrusion process is that it leaves room for a small amount of variation in the final wall thickness of the tube. When these tubes are then used for the purpose of pumping a liquid (as they are with the Select Doser), this can lead to a small level of inaccuracy from tube to tube.

The tube adjustment feature in your Select Doser allows you to compensate for these small inaccuracies by changing the dosing rate by a tiny amount.

Do I need to use the Tube Adjustment?

Ideally, everyone should use the correct tube adjustment rating with every new tube. This would ensure laboratory level precision for the Select Doser. However, there are a number of circumstances and situations where the tube adjustment simply isn’t going to be make a big enough difference for the user to worry about.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you. The tube adjustment gives you a tool to maximize the accuracy of your doser, and it’s up to you to decide if your application needs that level of precision.

How do I change the Tube Adjustment Rating?

This is shown in the embedded video. The option to change the adjustment rating is in the same menu used to change your dose or prime the pump. The video is much easier to follow than a step-by-step instruction, but for those with a slow internet connection, the steps are as follows:

1. (From the main dosing screen) Press Adjust to return to the main menu.
2. Press Set to go into the dosing setup menu.
3. Press Set again (on each option that you don’t want to change) until you reach a screen that says Tube Adjust.
4. Press Adjust until the number shown on screen matches the tube adjust rating listed on the packet for your peristaltic tube.
5. Follow the remaining prompts in the menu until you return to the dosing screen.
